Thank you for downloading the Gartner® Report on Top Technologies to Address Work Flexibility Needs in the Utility Sector During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond. Here are some key findings.

“Key Findings

  • Disruptive short- and long-term forces, ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to the ongoing energy transition, are pressuring utilities to reevaluate their traditional hesitation about adopting remote work or work-from-anywhere practices.
  • Utilities must adapt their technology priorities for three key areas: field work, office work (including customer service) and mission-critical work (including control centers) to enable flexible work practices. This will accelerate increases in operational efficiency, reduce costs, enhance the health and safety of their workforces, improve customer satisfaction and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Work from anywhere represents a significant cultural change, especially for utilities, which typically have business capabilities designed with centralization as a key principle.
  • Technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain are equipping utilities to prepare for evolving business requirements, creating more efficient and smarter digital workplaces and hassle-free experiences for customers. Digitization and digitalization of utility operations amplify requirements related to security, privacy and data governance.”
